University Chapters MRS University Chapters are created on university campuses to foster discussion among students and faculty across a broad range of materials disciplines, generate student interest in materials science, and promote exchange and dissemination of information between students and the Society and among Chapters. University Chapters are eligible for special benefits from MRS (e.g., distinguished lecturers and travel grants). A Chapter is formed by petition to the MRS Council signed by two faculty advisors who are MRS members and eight student members at the university to be served by the Chapter. There are currently 35 active University Chapters.
