ON THE COVER: Ecomaterials. A photo of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge across Tampa Bay in Florida, whose decking and piers are made from fly ash concrete. Fly ash concrete is a true "ecomaterial" that uses combustion waste products as a direct substitute for portland cement, thus avoiding the cost and environmental burden of cement production while at the same time avoiding landfill disposal of ash. See the technical theme that begins on p. 867. (Photo courtesy of the American Coal Ash Association.)
