About MRS Workshops
The Materials Research Society has established the MRS Workshop Series, a service for the materials community. MRS Workshops deal with highly focused and compelling subjects, as do the MRS Fall and Spring Meeting symposia. (Scroll down this page for a list of past MRS Workshops.) However, Workshops differ significantly in that they:
  • allow attendees to focus their full attention to a designated topic over a 2-3 day period.
  • offer much more interaction and discussion between speakers and the audience
  • are aimed at targeted audiences
  • are limited in size to about 125 participants
  • offer attendees a more in-depth review of important topics than is typically allowed in a "snapshot" symposium

Attendee survey responses confirmed the great technical success of this new forum, with 77% rating the Workshops "excellent " (the remaining 23% rated them "good").

For information on future workshops, contact MRS Member Services at 724-779-3003 or at info@mrs.org.

WE ARE ACTIVELY SEEKING NEW IDEAS AND POTENTIAL ORGANIZERS FOR WORKSHOPS

An MRS goal has been to respond to the needs of our members on a timely basis by providing quality forums for the exchange of ideas. To assist in achieving that goal, MRS will continually solicit new ideas from members on Workshop topics, along with potential organizers. If you would like to suggest a topic or volunteer to organize a workshop, please contact Patricia Hastings at hastings@mrs.org

 Comments on MRS Workshops:

"The combination of the focused topic and the good opportunities for interactions (lunches, poster sessions, dinner) made for a very useful meeting."

"I met several participants for the first time. This stimulated new ideas."

"A very good balance between talks and time for informal interaction."

"Really first rate."

"The need to provide a different type of forum to address very special educational needs has been evident to us for some time," said MRS Past President Robert Nemanich. The MRS Workshop format, as confirmed by the above feedback, services this need ideally.
