Symposium V: Better Ceramics Through Chemistry -
Organic/Inorganic Hybrid Materials

Hybrids are multicomponent materials in which properties are optimized through composition and structure. By combining organic and inorganic moieties at the molecular and supermolecular levels, new properties can be achieved.

This symposium will emphasize the relationship between synthesis, structure and properties of hybrid systems. Of particular interest is elucidation of the chemical and physical processes active in synthesis, processing and structural formation. Applications exploiting the unique properties, novel processing or tailorability of hybrids are also of interest.

Contributed papers, as well as suggestions for invited speakers, are solicited in the following areas:

* New synthetic routes, including precursor development and functionalization
* Structure, including self assembly, kinetic growth, phase separation and intercalation
* Structure-property relationships
* Electronic and optical properties
* Biomimetic materials
* Controlled porosity
