The flat panel display industry is currently experiencing a tremendous growth which is a result of the increasing demand for notebook computers. In the near future, the replacement of the cathode ray tubes by large-area, high-information-content flat panel displays in tabletop computer systems and the introduction of new electronic products ranging from personal digital assistants to high-definition TV will further contribute to the growth of this new industry. Continuing advances in many materials used by the various flat panel display technologies are needed to sustain the above growth. The scope of this symposium is to cover advances in materials and fabrication processes used by the various emissive and nonemissive flat panel display technologies including liquid crystal displays, electroluminescent displays, plasma displays, field emission displays, laser-based projection display, etc.
Papers are solicited from, but not limited to, the following areas:
*Thin-film semiconductors for thin-film transistor applications
* Other materials or fabrication processes for TFTs
* Liquid crystal materials for both transmissive and reflective displays
* Liquid crystal alignment layers and related processing
* Color filter materials
* Phosphor materials
* New organic electroluminescent materials
* Tip materials for field emission displays
