Call for Papers / MRS Symposium T
Nanomanufacturing
Session Topics | Invited Speakers | Organizers | Abstract Submission

Nanodevices are the wave of the future, but creating them remains an extremely slow process. This symposium seeks to explore new methods for producing large numbers of nanoscale patterns and devices.  Examples of such devices include DNA sensors, protein analyzers, micro- and nanofluidic channels, single-electron transistors, optical biosensors, and nanotransistors.  This symposium will be developed further to explore opportunities in combining “top-down” with “bottom-up” approaches for manufacturing nanoscale patterns and devices.

Session Topics

Focus areas include:

  • Assembling nanoscale structures and patterns into a system
  • Integration of nanoscale devices and structures into nanosystems
  • Scanning probe lithography
  • Nonlinear optical lithography
  • Micro- and nanocontact printing
  • Ink-jet printing
  • Templated assembly
  • Microfluidics

Invited Speakers

Invited speakers (tentative) include: Phaedon Avouris (IBM T.J. Watson Research Ctr.), Enzo di Fabrizio (Univ. di Trieste, Italy), Chris Gorman (North Carolina State Univ.), Satoshi Kawata (Osaka Univ., Tokyo, Japan), Chad Mirkin (Northwestern Univ.), John Rogers (Univ. of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign), Hank Smith and Carl Thompson (Massachusetts Inst. of Technology), Rao Tummala (Georgia Inst. of Technology), George Whitesides (Harvard Univ.), Stan Williams (Hewlett-Packard), Younan Xia (Univ. of Washington), and Peidong Yang (Univ. of California-Berkeley).
