Hynes Convention Center & Sheraton Boston Hotel and Towers Boston, Massachusetts
Meeting Activities
Technical
Symposia
Thirty-eight (38) technical symposia will be offered during the 2002
Fall Meeting featuring the latest technological developments in materials
science. The program has been designed to include intriguing new topics,
all of which promote the interdisciplinary nature of materials science.
Symposium
Tutorial Program
Available to meeting attendees at no extra charge, tutorials can introduce
a new or rapidly breaking area of research, highlight new developments
in an older field, or provide an overview for those unfamiliar with the
topic. They are designed to encourage the exchange of information by meeting
attendees during the symposium. Tutorials are described under specific
symposium listings in the program section.
Tutorial notes are
optional at $30 (complete the Tutorial Notes section on the preregistration
form). Cost for notes will increase to $40 after the preregistration deadline
of November 15. Preordered tutorial notes-and a limited supply for on-site
purchase-will be available at the Tutorial Notes Desk on the second
level of the Hynes Convention Center from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Sunday,
December 1. After that time, notes can be picked up or purchased in Publications
Sales at the Hynes Convention Center.
Symposium
X
Symposium X, Frontiers of Materials Research, presents a series
of authoritative reviews for the nonspecialist between noon and 1:30 p.m.,
Monday through Thursday.
Poster
Sessions
Authors will be available Monday through Thursday, 8:00-11:00 p.m., for
in-depth discussions. Complimentary snacks and beverages will be available
during these popular sessions.
Exhibit
A large-scale exhibition featuring more than 200 international exhibitors
from all sectors of the global materials science and engineering communities
will display a full spectrum of equipment, instrumentation, products,
software, publications, and services. Set for Tuesday, December 3, through
Thursday, December 5, in the Hynes Convention Center, Second Level, the
exhibit is convenient to the technical session rooms and scheduled to
coincide with the program. Complimentary coffee will be available during
morning and afternoon breaks in the exhibit hall.
Meeting attendees
are invited to visit the exhibit to learn more about the latest techniques
and advances and the future of materials science and engineering directly
from the manufacturers, suppliers, and developers, or to browse the new
releases, publications, and journals from the various publishers. The
MRS Fall Exhibit offers everything you needall under one roof.
Internet Access
Attendees of the Fall Meeting will have access to a free Internet

for details.
Women
in Materials Science and Engineering Breakfast
Director of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Lura Powell
will be the guest speaker at this Fall's Women in Materials Science and
Engineering breakfast. The topic is 'Career Path Choice1. Dr.
Powell ensures that PNNL delivers breakthroughs in the fields of fundamental
science, environmental science and technology, energy, and national security.
She is also leading the Laboratory as it prepares to play a major role
in systems biology, a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to
post-genomic biology that targets major challenges faced by DOE and other
federal programs. Sign up is required at the MRS Information Desk at the
Hynes Convention Center or in the lobby of the Sheraton by noon, Tuesday,
