Presentation Guidelines
ORAL PRESENTATIONS
- Most contributed presentations are scheduled
for 15 minutes; most invited speakers are scheduled for 30 minutes.
- Standard audiovisual equipment available
includes an LCD projector, overhead projector, screen, pointer,
and a lapel microphone.
- Author Guidelines
related to oral presentations
- If you need additional audiovisual equipment
(e.g., a 35 mm slide projector or VCR), it is essential to discuss
your request with one of your symposium organizers. Requests
for any special equipment must be received at MRS Headquarters
from the symposium organizer no later than November 12.
POSTER PRESENTATIONS
The following information may assist you in preparing an informative
and professional poster display:
- Print TITLE and authors in extra large characters
(over 1.25 in. high) across the top of your display.
- Display your material in large print so it
may be read from a distance. It is important to use text and
graphics larger and bolder than those of your manuscript! Be
clear and succinct.
- Each board will be approximately 8' wide
x 4' high. Usable space is 91" x 45." Boards
will accept pushpins or Velcro. A (finite) supply of pushpins
will be available.
- Each presentation will be assigned a board
and will be labeled with the number of the paper (e.g., M5.18)
and the presenting author's name. A small table will be under
each board.
- Refreshments will be provided during evening
sessions.

foyer for the remainder of the meeting and can be removed by
the authors at their convenience. Unless you are the winner
of a "Best Poster Award," it is extremely important
that you remove your poster at the end of your poster
session, no later than 11:00 p.m. (It is almost impossible
to locate posters if they are left on the boards after 11:00
p.m.)
Daytime Poster Sessions
Individual poster sessions are being
presented in several symposia. Poster boards with identifying
labels will be available at least 30 minutes prior to the starting
time of the session. Check the time in your letter of acceptance
to determine if your poster is being presented during the day
in the symposium room.

BEST POSTER PRESENTATIONS TO BE RECOGNIZED
AT THE 2001 MRS FALL MEETING
Poster sessions are an important and integral
part of MRS meetings, allowing many more authors the opportunity
to share their research and ideas with others. Because the quality
of poster sessions is a major priority of the Society, the 2001
Fall Meeting Chairs will recognize the best presentations at
the four evening poster sessions to be held in the Hynes Convention
Center, November 26 - November 29.
A prize of $500 will be awarded by the Chairs
to the presenting author(s) of the winning paper(s). One or more
awards will be made each evening. The Meeting Chairs will select
the winners on the basis of the posters' technical content, appearance
and graphic excellence (not necessarily equally weighted). Winning
posters will be displayed prominently for the remainder of the
meeting. Please plan to post your paper between 12:00 noon and
5:00 p.m. Judging for the Meeting Chairs' Best Poster Awards
will occur between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and general viewing
by meeting attendees will occur between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
