Message From The President 
Welcome to Boston and the 2000 Fall Meeting of the Materials Research Society. Our meeting chairs-Sungho Jin, Antonios Mikos, David Srolovitz, and Bernd Stritzker-have worked with their Symposium Organizers to assemble an outstanding array of technical symposia and special events that will present you with an unprecedented choice of speakers and topics. In addition to the symposium technical presentations, I want to call your attention to some of the many other offerings at this meeting, including the plenary session and award ceremony, symposium tutorial program, equipment exhibit, and special sessions discussing trends in research funding and employment opportunities. I hope that you will have the opportunity to benefit from all of these activities. My special thanks go to all those who have worked to make this such an exciting meeting, including the meeting chairs, symposium organizers, and MRS staff.
