COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Americas
- Pan-American Advanced Studies Institutes Program (PASI)
The "Pan American Advanced Study Institutes" (PASI) Program, is a jointly supported initiative between the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Pan American Advanced Studies Institutes are short courses of two to four weeks duration, involving lectures, demonstrations, research seminars and discussion at the advanced graduate and post-doctoral level. PASIs aim to disseminate advanced scientific and engineering knowledge and stimulate training and cooperation among researchers of the Americas in the mathematical, physical, and biological sciences, and in engineering fields. Whenever feasible, an interdisciplinary approach is recommended.
Deadline: January 15 of each year
- Inter-American Materials Collaboration
Deadline: Early fall every two years. Next competition will be in Fall 2004.
- International Materials Institutes (IMI) - Enhancing International Collaborations in Materials Research
The aim of this program is to establish International Materials Institutes that will enhance international collaboration between U.S. researchers and educators and their counterparts in specific regions of the world such as Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, or the Pacific region. These institutes will advance fundamental materials research by coordinating international projects involving condensed matter and materials physics; solid state and materials chemistry; and the design, synthesis, characterization, and processing of materials to meet global and regional needs.
Deadline: December 1, 2003
- International Research Fellowship Program (IRFP)
The objective of the International Research Fellowship Program is to introduce scientists and engineers in the early stages of their careers to opportunities abroad, thereby furthering NSF's goal of establishing productive, mutually-beneficial relationships between U.S. and foreign science and engineering communities.
Deadline: October 1 annually
- International Opportunities for Scientists and Engineers (INT)
The Division of International Programs (INT) contributes to NSF's mission by promoting new partnerships between U.S. investigators and their colleagues in other countries, or new cooperative projects between established collaborators. Such activities may be in any field of science and engineering research and education supported by NSF.
Deadline: May 1 for México

France
Translation: Research projects jointly established by two research groups (one from France and the other from a different country) that after review will benefit from the financial support offered by the two countries. Integrated Action Programs (IAP) are intended to public or private labs (universities, research centers and institutes, schools of engineering).
