Purpose
MRS
Graduate Student Awards are intended to honor and encourage graduate
students whose academic achievements and current materials research
display a high level of excellence and distinction. MRS seeks to
recognize students of exceptional ability who show promise for
significant future achievement in materials research.
Procedure
Graduate Student Award Applications are accepted from graduate
students who authored or co-authored a submitted abstract that
is ultimately accepted for the current MRS meeting. Applications
are reviewed by the Graduate Student Award Subcommittee and
symposium organizers for the selection of finalists. At the
MRS meeting, a panel of judges evaluates all finalists for
the Gold and Silver Awards based on 1) the quality of their
application materials, and 2) a ten-minute talk presentation
and five-minute discussion.
Award
Package
All
finalists receive either Gold or Silver Awards, a complimentary
meeting registration, and a one-year MRS student membership. The
Gold and Silver awards are presented during the Award Ceremony
at the MRS meeting and announced in the MRS
Bulletin and on this Web site. The prizes consist
of: $400 and a presentation plaque for the Gold Awards; $200
and a certificate for the Silver Awards.
